October in Review

Where has October gone?

Field Trip
This month we went to Williamsburg, VA and Historic Jamestowne.  We had a blast learning about the founding of our nation.  Before we went we started reading a book called Who's Saying What in Jamestowne, Thomas Savage? and part of the Felicity American Girl books.  While in Jamestown, we completed the Junior Park Ranger book and went on a tour with one of the archeologists who has been at the dig almost since the begining.  We went to the Archaearium and were able to see MANY artifacts from this facinating place.  While we were at the church looking for answers from their book we found a plaque about Thomas Savage which was very exciting for A7 and me.  I could write lots more about Historic Jamestowne but that will have to be it for now.  Williamsburg was a neat living history experience for us all and we are planning to go back a couple of times over the next year with our year long passes.

Bible
We are using Simply Charlotte Mason Module 1 for Bible, World History, and Geography.  We are taking this slower than it is written so far and have worked through Creation, the Fall, the Flood, Babel and have started on the life of Abraham.  We have used our map some and looked up the area we are talking about.  We have also learned Leaning on the Everlasting Arms during this time.

Phonics
We started with McGuffey Readers this year.  A7 is working to catch up to where his prior knowledge is.  A6 is finally excited to learn to read and is starting to catch on.  L4 is still soaking it all in with the informal stuff we are doing with him!

Math
We are working our way through our math book while also following outside intrests.  We learned a game at Williamsburg that is a dice addition game that they have really enjoyed since our return.

Science
We have started Apologia's Flying Creatures of the Fifth Day.  We have started keeping a bird house for them to see the birds that will join us.  We have also started reading Burgess' Bird Book
as well as the Among the People series

Other
We also focused on fire prevention as we listened to Firefighters a radio drama and discussed it.
A7 taught A6 to tie her shoes.

It has been an exciting month with lots more going on than this snapshot shows!  I have got to be more disciplined in doing weekly and not monthly reviews!!
